Critical thinking, the original sin.

by Jeremy R. Cort on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 12:10am ·
IT IS MY AIM TO PROMOTE CRITICAL THINKING, GET MAD IF YOU WANT, IT JUST MEANS YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT IT.

DANCING IN THE SPIRIT! A CELEBRATION OF SELF!

Ever since i was little i watched pentecostals dance about "in the spirit." This is nothing that i have ever gotten into myself mostly because i was too embarrassed to do it (giving into the flesh and all that.) As i aged i watched many people from many different churches "dance in the spirit" and most of it seemed fake or showy at best. in the video below (1) I could name at least 6 dance moves, growing up it was mostly jigs based on a persons individual physical ability, as time went on tho it became acceptable to allow "interpretive dance" into "individual religious celebrations" (dancing in the spirit.)  Getting the blood pumping during these "celebrations" cause all kinds of crazy stuff to switch on in your body. any high school kid taking a biology class can tell you about the effects exercise can have on the brain. getting all amped up in church makes you more susceptible to what is coming over the pulpit. I will admit, while growing up it looked as though my fellow church goers were smitten by christ himself and filled with the holy spirit to the point that they just couldn't hold it in any longer. As an adult i look at them and see precisely how self serving it all is, they are saying with their bodies that they are better christians than the rest of the people in the room because they have more jesus in them.

THE BLOODLUST OF CHRISTIANS!

This video brings me to the next part. Christians all throughout history have taken part in some of the most bloody endeavors to convert the word and bring the truth of jesus by force to the ignorant masses. psychology today (2)  writes, "Nevertheless, just as it would be wrong to simplistically attribute the violence entirely to religion, it would be similarly inappropriate to deny the obvious religious connection. Any objective assessment, not just of these events but of religion itself, must seriously ponder the chain of causation that so often leads from religion to irrational violence." Most of the sermons that are going out to the public right now are laced heavily with "voting for the godless Obama is a sin" rhetoric. It is hard for the categorically undereducated and intolerant christian masses (4) to pick the pieces of truth out of irrational arguments like this especially when those arguments are backed by the almighty tv spin machine (5). Religion flatly states that you must believe the TRUTH (that is subjective to whom is speaking at the time) and if you don't you will DIE / be eternally punished.  Posing ultimatums like this, especially to children, as choices are infact not choices at all. of course none of us want to die. but die all we heathens will, if we do not obey the one true god. (Again this is subjective to whom is speaking at the time.) As of 2011 there are upwards of 2000 deities being worshipped on this earth, and all of their followers believe that they have the golden ticket to heaven. You better believe it too, or die! But is there is a way to be good without god? Yes, yes there is. Humanism, read on.

HUMANISM, LIFE AFTER THEOLOGY!

In the end of it all. it harms no one to be kind to one another or maintain a "pay it forward" attitude in life. Humanism, in my opinion, is the next logical step of atheism. It takes all the good in the bible, removes the magic, bases actions in reason and sound science and makes the world a better place. psychology today writes (3) "But more than ever, many now achieve these ends without institutions or beliefs grounded in supernatural theology, by instead utilizing humanist organizations, secular institutions, or other means to fill such needs. These people find peace, mindfulness, goodwill, community, ethics, perspective, and culture without the assistance of theology or religious institutions. These people are post-theological, and many of them are humanists." Humanism is all the church without the blood, hatred, venom, bigotry, violence, exclusion and fear. i feel that teaching others, children especially so, that being awesome to each other is a far better thing than god will kill you and you will burn forever if you make him sad.

Take some time and think about your world view. Try to suspend you natural susceptibility to belief perseverance and inherent confirmation bias(6) and THINK for 30 minutes or so about your life and the contributions you have made to society, are you honestly making this world a better place by doing the things you do? i get asked all the time, what if you are wrong and there is a god! The answer is easy, I will burn in hell. Me, just me. and the world will ultimately be a better place for having me in it because i gave of myself to help others without any thought of reward.. When i ask the reverse question tho, what if your life long endeavor to please the wish granting zombie sky jew is in vain? what will you have done to make this world a better place? Do you want to count preaching exclusion  hatred, venom and bigotry? Voting against human rights? perpetuating lies and class warfare? This is where i usually lose my audience... Inherently good people don't like being called bad people, it upsets them. Being faced with the idea that while trying to live a good sinless life they ended up living a selfish and self serving one is shattering to most and causes them to have an "intense" reaction that usually involves cursing and sometimes hitting.

Be smarter than the generation before, embrace intelligence, reason and sound science over fantasy and bigotry. It is wrong for us to use religion to justify bad behavior and it is time to stop.

  • Jeremy R. Cort christians en masse, use god as an excuse for their bad behavior and i'm frikkn tired of it. it is not ok. last 2 lines pretty much say it all. you amber by yourself are a benign christian, while others like mom, dad & dean jr for example, use their faith as an excuse to "otherize" people and treat them different while clinging to "the word." THAT IS NOT OK. i am still waiting for a stimulating debate regarding the science & links i have posted tho, i guess maybe that is too much to ask lol. saying "praise god! and you are going to hell" falls a bit short from an argument based on reason and sound science.

  • Matthew Taylor jeremy my friend you cant debate science and faith of a religion vs each other because faith cant back themselves with fact. I have found personaly that people that believe whole heartedly in a religion are using it as a crutch. religion is for the weak minded that cant get through life without believing there is something after.

For tounges are given as a sign for the unbeliever. In the book of Acts they heard them speak with other tounges and magnify God. Jeremy R. Cort ... kep it in the thread please. im switching back over.
  • Jeremy R. Cort there, continuity!
  • Jeremy R. Cort the sheer volume of responses make it difficult to craft a clear response, i type real slow.
  • Jeremy R. Cort 1 steve, apparently i was wrong, christians do in fact believe in deathbed absolution. my mom said so. i did not fact check this. from what i remember of our conversation the other night mom you stated that was not the case.
  • Jeremy R. Cort acts 2:38 would preclude the possibility of deathbed absolution in my opinion. and if i remember right you cannot got to heaven without that.
  • Amber Sellers This is a game guys. I feel like he sits home plotting how to get us riled up so he can say we are being hateful and etc. I think we should all just ignore him at this point. We are getting nowhere and allowing him to put a wedge between our relationship. I dont stand for that.

  • Jeremy R. Cort you all volunteered to comment. you could have just been quiet. i was relaying what i feel to be the truth based on my reasoning and the science i have experienced so far.
  • Jeremy R. Cort "you all" are blowing this up. not me. the wedge is yours. a debate should not turn into a family dividing event.
  • Jeremy R. Cort fact of the matter is, i still love you guys the same amount and in the same way that i did when i woke up this morning. even tho you are actively trying to destroy my quality of life with HATRED and BIGOTRY.
  • Rocky Robitaille again you wouldnt know science if it camped on your doorstep, stop web surfing and using it as your bible
  • Jeremy R. Cort k, now tell me how you love me "even tho" im different.
  • Jeremy R. Cort sci·ence

  • Jeremy R. Cort my grades in school...
  • Jeremy R. Cort right, because school defines who we are as people.
  • Jeremy R. Cort im a different person than how i am represented on paper.
  • Jeremy R. Cort as are we all.
  • Rocky Robitaille , but it sure does give a good idea as to how one thinks

If you take science it tells you that science has never proved anything. It can create hypothesis. You can prove other things are not true. God has never been proven NOT to exist by science.

  • Jeremy R. Cort yeesh, no one looks good on paper dad.. even eistein was bad at simple math.
  • Jeremy R. Cort christians have never proven god exists. that its your claim. not mine. the burden of proof is on you. not me.
  • Rocky Robitaille ummm my gpa was a 3.67 i say that looks pretty good on paper

  • Jeremy R. Cort .... the disregard i have is for fear and bigotry billie-jo. not religion. mom and dad are all over the map mixing arguments. i say live and let live, they say love god or die. i'm not cool with that. they can believe what they want as long as those beliefs do not infringe on my rights.
  • Jeremy R. Cort 2-3 agreeing mom is a wiccan philosophy too.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
You mean while you infringe on their beliefs. Stop believing in God or die. Wiccans is 4 it is the 4 nature Earth, Water, Wind and Fire. If your going to use anthropology use it right.
  • Rocky Robitaille rights we all have the right to spend eternity in smoking or non smoking, where will yousr be spent will you drag someone with you will your kids see these post and follow you are you concerned as a parent

  • Sandra Robitaille wiccan's don't have the Holy Ghost and Fire!
  • Jeremy R. Cort truth will win out in the end.
  • Jeremy R. Cort i diddnt say they did mom.
  • Jeremy R. Cort billie jo, the 4 in wicca are the 4 corners, the elements. and that is from the craft. (a movie)
  • Sandra Robitaille you said that they believe 2 or 3......the Devil believes and Trembles.......I simply said they don't have the power!!

Wicca is the craft. Would you like to read my college text book on it?
  • Jeremy R. Cort ok w/e mom. yes the bible says a lot of stuff. it also says don't lie. and that our leaders are put there by god and you should not be a part of that or judge it.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
OHHHHH the bible tells you not to lie. That's Why your an athiest. I get it.
  • Jeremy R. Cort naw im good, while i do not fully understand wiccan stuff this is a small point of contention. the larger point is this: i am asking for this :"Be smarter than the generation before, embrace intelligence, reason and sound science over fantasy and bigotry. It is wrong for us to use religion to justify bad behavior and it is time to stop."
  • Jeremy R. Cort and im getting a ton of bs for asking people not to lie and take our rights away.
  • Jeremy R. Cort haha billie jo, no that is not why.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
Your biggest liar I know. lol

  • Jeremy R. Cort hm. ok ill concede that point. i know i was a bad husband billie jo, i lied to you and cheated on you. could have done alot of things different.
  • Jeremy R. Cort its so nice to see everyone getting along tho. now you all have something to talk about.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
    You lied in this post.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
You said they have been taking money out of you to support your children. That is a lie. O
  • Jeremy R. Cort where did i say that?
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
i am in fact fulfilling all of my legal obligations. just because a check is not sent to billie-jo each week does not mean that i am being financially irresponsible when it comes to the kids. This has been copied from your post and pasted.
  • Jeremy R. Cort that does not say "You said they have been taking money out of you to support your children. That is a lie. O"
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
Oh okay gonna try to trick people by mincing words. I get it ;)
  • Jeremy R. Cort you are missing the larger point here tho. i am asking for christians to practice their beliefs responsibly. and not use them to take our rights away. - you are shifting it to a discussion about child support. money does not make a parent billie-jo.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
It's right on point!! If you had a job you would spend less time on your anti God war path. Child support would be proving you are spending your time in a more productive manner.
  • Jeremy R. Cort you have been living with me the last several years. you cannot know all that has gone on. no one does.
  • Jeremy R. Cort i cant work anymore billie jo, i have been out of work for almost 3 years. i am disabled.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
Whatever makes you sleep at night.
  • Jeremy R. Cort i dont sleep at night... i sleep a few hours a day. i have a service connected disability, %40 permanent rating and there is still more to go through. just because we never talked about it does not mean its a lie. i can understand your misgivings, but there is no reason to be mean about stuff. it is possible to disagree and stuff, and still be a family billie-jo. that is all i ever wanted since you left on that may 19th with you mom. the last visit we all had together was really awesome. we were all having fun i thought. everyone seemed to be happy. it gives me a lot of hope for the future.
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
I'm sorry but I already told you I don't approve of what your doing. There are many things I don't approve of when it comes to you. I'm guessing you know that and you have been respecting that. There are more appropriate ways to go about this agenda. Anti God isn't one of them.
  • Jeremy R. Cort billie-jo, the atheism / humanism thing is all me. it is my "inevitable conclusion" of course im not forcing people to believe the way i do, im cool with live and let live, christians are not. all this got all tossed up because there was no order to the arguments being presented, and i think feelings were hurt in the process. people have a right to exercise their rights so long as in doing so they do not infringe on the rights of others. why is this so hard to understand?
  • Billie-Jo Dunbar · 13 mutual friends
Well certainly better then this summer's warpath.

    • Amber Sellers youre not cool with live and let live because you keep pushing this crap on everyone, just like "christians" do. if you wanna live and let live, than stop with this grabage.
    • Jeremy R. Cort amber, i am not supporting people's bad behavior. i call out people on being non factual, and spreading lies that hurt. and im the bad guy because i did not do the socially acceptable thing and shush up.
    • Jeremy R. Cort its all moot tho, i wont be posting on their stuff anymore. they made it clear where they stand.
    • Amber Sellers Glad they finally drove the point home.
    • Amber Sellers I didnt mean that rudely. I just feel at times this has been taken waaaaaaay (way) too far. Its okay to not see eye to eye, but sometimes all just have to know when to stop. I think we all reached that point at the same time.
    • Amber Sellers And just to insert, I am not blaming it being taken too far on specific persons. I feel we all could take acountability. Such is life, I think we should bunker down together for the storm! I call my room!
    • Jeremy R. Cort i'm not posting anymore because they are refusing to use reason and common decency when interacting with me, or anyone else for that matter. dad started deleting posts today he deemed offensive, or that made him look bad (things he wrote) they have both displayed an absolute unwillingness to understand how their behavior affects those around them. and now im done trying.
    • Amber Sellers A new leaf turned over. I do hope.
    • Jeremy R. Cort what? have i turned over a new leaf?
    • Amber Sellers No i guess im hoping we all do. Like move on past this.
    • Jeremy R. Cort so i guess ill stop all together picking apart their facebook posts. if you guys want to comment on the stuff i write, you better bring fact and reason with you. i'm not having a repeat of today.
