Both bans were the result of lawsuits against the teaching of religion and religious practices in public schools. Basically stating that organized prayer in schools was a violation of the separation of church and state. Cort wow dad.. your argument while deeply flawed and plagiarized has nothing to do with weather or not a 20yo kid should have access to anti personnel weaponry. having no forced god time in school does NOT MAKE crazy people shoot up schools. lack of a proper fact based education, mental health resources, pediatric screening and even parenting cause this kind of stuff to happen. with all the gun related deaths.. no... make that all the murders in the last year, how many were committed by militant atheists? ho many were not religiously influenced and how many were committed by loving "christians?"

Leila Benoit And the point was that kids are allowed to pray in school if they want to. They just aren't forced to anymore. Soooo. Yeahhhh. This way everyone can pray to their own god, or no god, instead of everyone being forced to pray to one god. I have a feeling you'd feel better about it, Rocky, if I referred the god kids would be forced to pray to as "Allah."

Sharon Mason WHEN I was in school, we never had public prayer accept in high school graduations or events as that..Been a christian as long as I can remember, does anyone know when everyone thinks we just had like open prayer meetings cause it was not in my day. Also any prayer at these events ministers of different faiths were all included. Just wondering .. As a side note I agree in part ..I would not want my child or grandchildren to be taught spiritual things by anyone that would differ with my beliefs or the belief of their parents beliefs the child would become confused. Just sayin..

Leila Benoit And that's why it just works better overall if religious instruction occurs at home and at church; NOT at school. Besides. How does it make sense that if kids aren't receiving religious instruction at school, they will not have a moral compass and will start killing each other? Isn't it a parents' responsibility to teach their child morality and decency? Besides, this wasn't a student at the school, right? This was an adult. Who then went into the school for the express purpose of murdering those people. So how can it be blamed on not having prayer in school? That is so obviously a shameless attempt at using this tragedy to advance a religious agenda. (I'm not directing that at anyone on this thread, just in general at people on the news and otherwise who say this happened because we "took God out of schools.") Kids can still pray in school. When I was in school I prayed before every meal and often throughout the day. I even brought religious literature to school and gave it to interested teachers and students. And that was in the late nineties, soooo. To my knowledge it is still that way, and so it is misleading to say that we have taken god out of schools and that kids get in trouble for praying now. That's just not true.

What happened was and is a horrible event one that ( in my opinion should bring shame to humanity) but as a Christian I believe this was an act of a deranged poor excuse for a human and to take advantage of the situation to use political, spiritual or any soap box..should go against anyone who has a human heart.
